Diana Frances Spencer was born on the 1st of July in the year 1961. For several decades, the Spencer family paid service to the Royal Family. In the year 1975, after her father was bestowed with the title Earl Spencer, she came to be known as Lady Diana Spencer.
Prince Charles and Diana met at a party hosted by Diana’s sister Lady Sarah. After few months, on 29th July 1981, the couple was married. The wedding was viewed by more than 750 million people on a worldwide basis.

The couple reared two children Prince William and Prince Harry born in the years 1982 and 1984 respectively.
It was during the late 1980’s that speculations were rife about discord in their marital lives. Finally, in December 1992, they announced that they were separating. Apparently, Prince Charles was having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles since the early 1970s which caused the rift in their relationship. The divorce came into effect on 28th August 1986. Princess Diana met her death on August 31st, 1997 in a car accident in Paris. It was the tunnel beneath the Alma Bridge where the mishap occurred after she left the Ritz Hotel with her then boyfriend Dodi Fayed – the famous Harrods departmental store was owned by him. They were seated in a Mercedes car that was being driven at high speed. They were relentlessly being pursued by the paparazzi. The accident caused the death of Mr Fayed and her driver Henri Paul on the spot. Diana breathed her last at the hospital after a few hours.
Several reasons for their demise were given. Henri Paul was blamed as he was driving that night and was on anti-depressants. Other reports suggested that the paparazzi were guilty of causing the driver to drive at high speed.
There are also many conspiracy theories doing the rounds including that it was the Royal Family that ordered the death because Diana was pregnant with Dodi’s child and they did not want a scandal. Other reports suggested that M16 murdered Diana after receiving orders from the Duke of Edinburgh.
The mention of a Fiat Uno car being used to block the tunnel and cause the Mercedes to veer off was also revealed in the investigations. Additionally, it was also claimed that the crash was not recorded by the CCTV camera footage which added to the mystery surrounding the death of the Princess.
Some people also said that they were not adorning seatbelts due to which they died. It was also widely speculated whether Henri Paul had a role to play.
Diana’s death shook the entire nation as they were obsessed with her and she was fondly called as the ‘People’s Princess’. The funeral took place on 6th September 1997. Her remains are buried at the Althorp Estate on an island that belongs to the Spencer family. There are many memorials of her including one at Hyde Park in London. This year on August 31st, it will be 20 years since she passed away. However, she will forever remain etched in the hearts of people.
